چکیده

The WCDMA system, an asynchronous CDMA scheme, uses different downlink scrambling codes for each base station, not requiring synchronization between the base stations as in the synchronous CDMA systems. However, the mobile station needs to obtain initial code synchronization by resolving both the code and timing uncertainty. The 3GPP group adopts the use of a three-step cell search scheme [1]. For ease of initial cell search, the base station transmits two synchronization codes through the synchronization channel. The mobile station searches the peak correlation value of the primary synchronization code to acquire the slot timing. For reliable detection, the receiver combines the correlation values from several slots. In this paper, we propose a new combining scheme that can reduce search time and also provide performance robust to a wide range of initial frequency offset. The proposed scheme utilizes a differential detection method, applicable to the transmit antenna diversity mode as well as the single antenna mode. The proposed scheme can also estimate the initial frequency offset for the automatic frequency control (AFC) performance, eliminating the need of initial frequency acquisition circuit.

Load-Frequency Control in a Deregulated Environment Based on Bisection Search

Recently several robust control designs have been proposed to the load-frequency control (LFC) problem. However, the importance and difficulties in the selection of weighting functions of these approaches and the pole-zero cancellation phenomenon associated with it produces closed loop poles. Also the order of robust controllers is as high as the plant. This gives rise to complex structure of s...

Residual frequency offset correction for coherently modulated OFDM systems in wireless communication

Abstract—Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) systems are very sensitive to frequency offset caused by tuning oscillator instabilities and Doppler shifts induced by the channel. The Schmidl and Cox Algorithm (SCA) is quite robust in estimating the frequency offset for systems with large OFDM symbol lengths. It uses two OFDM symbols for training with the first one having two identical ...

An Improved Method for Secondary Code Synchronization in WCDMA

The initial search procedure in WCDMA is used to identify the scrambling code used by the base station that has the lowest path loss coefficient of the received signal among all the other base stations. The timing relationship between base stations is asynchronous in WCDMA system. So the three-step cell search algorithm is introduced in 3GPP protocols in order to fast identify the special base ...

A Preamble-Based Cell Searching Technique for OFDM Cellular Systems

In this paper, a novel preamble structure, including a synchronization field (S-field) and a cell searching field (C-field), is proposed. An efficient algorithm for downlink synchronization and cell searching using the preamble is also proposed. The synchronization process includes initial symbol timing estimation using continuously or at least periodically transmitted downlink signal, frame de...

Performance Enhancements to the WCDMA Cell Search Algorithms

In this paper, we study the various steps involved in the cell search process and an attempt has made to simulate them. When the received signal was correlated with the Primary Synchronization Code (PSC) sequences generated at the mobile station (MS), some peak values were obtained and the maximum of those peak values was displayed as the slot value for that particular frame. In frame synchroni...
